Corran Raa

For the last 9 years a group of fiddlers has headed up to the beautiful uninhabited island of Taransay, off the West Coast of Harris, Scotland. We have an amazing week of friendship, fun and fiddling (and fine food too).

On the East coast of Taransay is a sand spit called Corran Raa – it’s always a good spot for a photo!

Autumn leaves

Sometimes I don’t go far for a picture….this one was taken on a soggy autumn afternoon. I’d planned on getting some beautiful sunny shots, as the leaves turned, but I didn’t head out of the door early enough for that to happen! These leaves in the neighbour’s garden happened to catch my eye.

Shindiggery

I’m also a keen fiddler, and was lucky enough to spend a weekend on the island of Lismore recently, with a group of friends who have formed a band called Shindiggery. On the Saturday evening we had organised a gig in the hall on the island. I took this shot during the afternoon, when the sun was streaming through the open door.

Canal Festival

Edinburgh has it’s own annual canal festival – a day when the canal is full of folk paddling, rowing, fishing, canoeing, rafting and pretty much any other activity you can conceive of on a small canal! There’s plenty of music and activity on the canal banks too. I took this photo of at one of the stalls.

Snowy dawn

I took this photo in the grounds of at Wiston lodge in the Scottish borders, early in January 2010. It was a magical weekend with crisp misty mornings and plenty of snow. I almost missed breakfast waiting for this shot!

Ramsay Gardens

Ramsay Gardens, right in the middle of the city, is always photogenic, but when the snow hit Edinburgh at the end of November, it was hard to know where to start with taking pictures – everything looked so beautiful!

Bike mobile

I was helping out by taking some photos at at Edinburgh’s Ethical Christmas Fair this year. I loved this tiny little bicycle, part of a hanging mobile, made from bottle tops and bits of wire.

City lights

I love the effects of the coloured lighting at the front of the Edinburgh International Conference Centre
